In response to recent events and increased dialogue across the United States with about race relations, the Center for Vision Loss has issued a statement, which is as follows:
“At the Center for Vision Loss, we are dedicated to personal independence. We believe that every person deserves a life of independence, dignity, and hope. Our focus is on sight and we do not pretend to know how to combat every problem around us, including racism against people of color. We declare, with utmost conviction, that we condemn and will not tolerate racism in any form and that we stand with those who demand that we all do better. #WeSeeYou #WeHearYou #Independence #Dignity #Hope”
The statement also was posted on the agency’s Facebook page.
The Center for Vision Loss’ Board of Directors adopted a diversity and inclusion policy in January 2019. It states that, “ … it is our policy to serve people of all physical capabilities, economic capacities, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, and ages and strive to foster an environment in which everyone feels valued, understood, appreciated, cared for, and empowered.”
