TASTE OF THE SHADOWS IS HERE!

Don’t forget to register now for our annual vision loss awareness fundraising event, A Taste of the Shadows. The date is Thursday, October 19, 2017, beginning at 5:30 pm at the Green Pond Country Club, Bethlehem.  You won’t want to miss this “eye-opening” event which includes great food, a wine tasting with Franklin Hills Vineyards, a beer tasting with Penn Beverage, a fun raffle, and the opportunity to dine while wearing a blindfold to simulate vision loss. A sighted guide joins each table to “lend their eyes” and provide information and helpful tips to the participants. Following the dinner, there is a program which this year includes the premier of two short videos created by Daymarks Productions and ASR Media Productions about the work of our agency, as well the presentation of our 2017 Accessibility Champion awards.

Our major event sponsors this year include: Daymarks Productions, Independence Presentation Event Sponsor; ASR Media Productions, Visual Perception Sponsor; Lehigh Eye Specialists, Vision Rehabilitation Invitation Sponsor and Inova Technologies, Assistive Technology Reception Sponsor.

The price per ticket is $75.  The registration deadline is October 6, 2017. Click here to print out an Invitation Response Form which can be returned to us at Center for Vision Loss, 845 W. LIONS NEEDS BREAKFAST

Our Lions 14-K Needs Breakfast will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, from 9-11 am at the Northampton Community Memorial Hall in Northampton.  It’s that wonderful time when we gather with representatives from Lion, Lioness and Leo Clubs in Lehigh and Northampton Counties to thank them for and celebrate our on-going collaboration since 1928. The Center for Vision Loss and the Lions have helping people with vision loss as a common goal. Through the annual support of the local clubs we have been able to continue to provide programs and services such as free vision screenings for children, escorted transportation, and case management for the past 89 years! We are also joining our friends in District 14-K in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Lionism this year–what an accomplishment!

The Needs Breakfast packets were mailed to all clubs in August.  Clubs can also access the  informational paperwork at http://lions14k.org or click here. The deadline for registration for the Breakfast is October 2, 2017. Any questions, call Karen Huetter, Development Director at 610-433-6018 x 241.

A TASTE OF THE SHADOWS

We are getting excited to hold our 4th annual “A Taste of the Shadows” fundraiser on Thursday, October 19, 2017. This signature event, while also lots of fun, focuses on the serious topic of vision loss. We ask that our guests dine while wearing a blindfold to simulate vision loss. A sighted guide joins every table to act as the guests’ “eyes” and provide information and support. Last year, we heard this comment about the effect of this event: “They say that seeing is believing. But sometimes NOT seeing is understanding!” We couldn’t say it better ourselves!

The event is held at the Green Pond Country Club, 3604 Farmersville RD, Bethlehem, PA 18020. It begins at 5:30 pm with a sighted Gathering Hour which includes hors d’oeuvres, a wine-tasting by Franklin Hills Vineyards, a craft beer tasting by Allentown Beverage Co, and our New Focus Raffle.
Following dinner, there will be a program featuring the premier of two new videos about the agency created by Daymarks Productions and ASR Media Productions and the introduction of our 2017 Accessibility Champions.

The ticket price is $75 per person. Invitations to this event will be available in mid-August. Sponsors to date include: Presentation Sponsor: Daymarks Productions; Visual Presentation Sponsor, ASR Media Productions; Invitation Sponsor, Lehigh Eye Specialists, plus the following other sponsors to date: Inova Technologies, Valley National, Laurie Siebert, BB&T, Easton Coach, Morgan Stanley and Elite Sealcoating. More sponsor are welcome and some sponsorship levels include tickets.

For more information, call 610-433-6018 x 241. We hope to see you in October!

IT’S HIGHMARK WALK TIME AGAIN!

Even though the winter has been mellow this year, we just bet that most of you are ready to be heading outside to enjoy the refreshing days of Spring that are ahead. We hope that being outside means getting your walking gear together and making a “go” of it! The best “go” we can think of is to join us for the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at DeSales University, Center Valley, PA.

Once again we can thank our friends at Highmark for sponsoring this event which benefits 28 participating Lehigh Valley health and human services organizations. The Center for Vision Loss has taken part every year and the great thing is that Highmark Blue Shield underwrites 100% of the cost of the event so that the funds you raise for our agency directly benefit us.

There are lots of choices. You can walk as an individual, form your own team or be a virtual walker. Our Goal is to raise $5,000 to support our summer Camp I CAN! for youth ages 7-13 who are visually impaired. The camp takes place in July and is always a lot of fun for our kids.

Register and donate now at www.walkforahealthycommunity.org. Or if you prefer that we do this for you, click here for the Walker/Donation Form and mail it to us with your donation by May 26, 2017. Either way the walking is easy with the 2.5 Mile Walk beginning at 9 am and the 1 Mile Walk beginning at 9:15 am and virtual walkers do not even have to walk to participate!

If you have questions, please contact the Development Department at 610-433-6018 x 241 or information@centerforvisionloss.org.

Mark Your Calendar: The Taste of the Shadows returns on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Green Pond Country Club, Bethlehem, PA. This event is our premier vision low awareness event/fundraiser.  Check back for more details in the coming weeks.
